Heavy rains lash Hyderabad, no relief for another 24 hours

Heavy rains have been lashing out Hyderabad for the past few days. Hyderabad has been witnessing torrential rains for the past 3 days which have brought the capital of Telangana to a standstill. Waterlogging and inundation were a common sight as intense showers refused to take a break.

Heavy rains lash Hyderabad, no relief for another 24 hours

Hyderabad (Telangana): Very heavy rains lashed several parts of Hyderabad, inundating low lying areas and throwing normal life out of gear, according to the weather office on Friday.

People spent sleepless nights in some colonies as flood water entered their houses, following very heavy rains from Thursday midnight to early Friday.

According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, some areas received very heavy rainfall of over 14 cm. Guddimalkapur in Asifnagar area has recorded the highest rainfall of 14.85 cm, breaking a new record.

Nampally, Rajendranagar, Secunderabad Khairatabad, Musheerabad, and Bahadurpura also received very heavy rainfall (above 11.65 cm), according to data available with Telangana State Development Planning Society.

Water gushed into 200 houses in MS Makta near Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the Governor, as the protection wall of an open drain collapsed.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) emergency teams swung into action to repair the wall and provided relief to the residents.

The water level in Hussain Sagar lake was also rising due to heavy inflows through the stormwater drains.

The lake's water level on Friday morning stood at 513.9 meters against Full Tank Level (FTL) of 513.4 meters. The gates of outflow channels were opened to release the water to ensure that the level does not reach the danger mark of 514.75 meters.

Greater Hyderabad Mayor B. Rammohan was monitoring the situation along with senior GHMC officials.

Emergency teams were deputed to inundated colonies. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel were also assisting the municipal authorities in removing trees which fell on the roads and clearing the bottleneck in the free flow of stormwater drains.

The Nacharam police station was flooded with rainwater and services were halted for hours. The rainwater also entered a government school in Goshamahal. Meanwhile, residents of east Anandbagh and Malkajgiri were seen pumping out rainwater using motors.

Commuters on Friday morning faced severe hardships as some roads remained underwater.

Incessant rains over the last three to four days have badly damaged the roads in several parts of the city.

The Indian Met Department has forecast more rains over the next two days.

Heavy rains have been lashing out Hyderabad for the past few days. Moreover,  Hyderabad  has been witnessing torrential rains for the past 3 days which have brought the capital of Telangana to a standstill.

The Nacharam police station was flooded with rainwater and services were halted for hours. The rainwater also entereda government school in Goshamahal. Meanwhile, residents ofEast Anandbagh and Malkajgiri were seen pumping out rainwat  using motors.



These showers have been so intense that the city has seen three rain-related deaths as well. Water logging and inundation were also a common sight as rainfall activity refused to take a break.
