Gold seized from passenger in Hyderabad airport

Officials of the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs department at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, on Wednesday, booked a case of smuggling against a passenger. The passenger who arrived from Dubai concealed 233 grams of foreign-origin gold inside the zip flier of his trousers.

Hyderabad: Customs officials seized 233 grams of gold worth Rs 12.22 lakh from a passenger at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad here on Wednesday.

The accused has been identified as Siva Krishna, who was coming from Riyadh to Hyderabad.

The customs officials have conducted searches at Shamshabad Airport and air cargo this morning. The searches have been carried out under the supervision of a team of Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, and Inspectors.

According to Customs officials, the passenger allegedly concealed 2 cut pieces of gold weighing 233 grams inside the zipper of his jeans.

Officials booked a case of smuggling of gold against the accused and further investigation is underway, officials said.

After resuming the operations at RGIA, this has been considered as the major seizure by the customs officials in recent times.

Notably, air operations have been suspended from March for a few weeks because of the lockdown declared by the central government to contain the spread of Coronavirus.
