Hyderabad: A group of robbers targeting an ATM loading crew decamped away with almost Rs 70 lakh from an Axis Bank cash van parked near an ATM at Vanasthalipuram in Hyderabad on Tuesday afternoon.
Police sources said that an attention diversion gang targeted the bank staff that came for loading an ATM with currency. They, in a well-planned manner, first pointed at notes strewn on the road to draw the attention of the bank staff.
Later, one of the robbers took off a trunk carrying around Rs 70 lakh cash from the rear side of the van when bank's currency loading staff started picking up the notes. The man carrying the trunk immediately crossed the road and escaped in an autorickshaw that was perhaps waiting for them on the other side.
Police suspect burglars earlier did a recce of the place on several occasions.
A manhunt has been launched by the city police to nab the criminals.
Police suspect the role of an inter-state gang in the case.
