Salem (Tamil Nadu): Suramangalam Women's Police Station in Salem Corporation has clinched the second spot in best performing police station across the country. A Manipur Police Station topped the list.
The Union Home Ministry had ordered to form a committee to monitor the performance of police stations. Accordingly, the committee visited and inspected all the police stations across the country including Tamil Nadu. The attitude of the police towards the public who came to lodge the complaint, the details of the convictions in the cases and completion of the pending cases were all the criteria, in which the ranking is granted.

According to the Union Home Ministry, Suramangalam Women's Police Station Inspector Valarmathi, Assistant Inspectors Umarani, Regina PV and 17 female police officers have done a great job in convicting criminals in more than ten cases. In addition, Suramangalam police officers have done immediate investigations in sexual abuse cases of girls and arrested 6 people under the POCSO Act. The officials were also found to be excellent in investigation and record keeping.
