Toddler tortured: Woman arrested, search on for paramour

A 23-year-old woman, who tortured her toddler for being 'ugly' and believing that she had lost her beauty after the child's birth, was arrested after the video of her violently beating the kid had gone viral on the internet. She took to heart her paramour's criticism that not only the child was ugly but the birth of the second child had cost her appeal. Chennai (Tamil Nadu): Torturing her child and video recording the same had landed a woman behind the bars while the police are on the lookout for her boyfriend.

After the shocking visuals of the woman, Thulasi, violently beating the toddler, had gone viral recently, she was arrested by a special team of the Tamil Nadu police from her maternal home in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

According to police, the arrest followed a complaint from her husband, Vadivazhagan (37) of Manalapdi Madura Mettur village near Gingee town in Villupuram district, about 150 km from Chennai. She was nabbed from Rampalli in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

When the couple was living at Perungalathur in suburban Chennai, Thulasi has developed an affair with Prem Kumar, following a missed call from him.

During questioning by the police, she had further said that Prem Kumar had said that her second child was ugly and not cute like her. Further, he had told her that she had lost her appeal after childbirth.

After this, she had started torturing the child and sent the video recording of the same to her paramour, who asked her to get divorced so that they can live together. Thulasi then had left for her maternal home about 40 days ago.

The tortures came to light when Vadivazhagan had gone to Rampalli in connection with the divorce papers, and accessed the mobile phone he had given to Thulasi. He approached the All Women Police at Gingee.

Earlier, Thulasi had claimed that the child got bruises frequently due to falling from the bed.

"Every time, I asked about the child's injury, she'll have an instant answer. I didn't suspect then. I was shocked and filed a complaint after watching the videos. The boy is fine after treatment,” Vadivazhagan told the media.

After her arrest, Thulasi was taken to the Villupuram Government Medical College Hospital to assess her mental health. The preliminary medical report returned that she was mentally sound.

Gingee Deputy Superintendent of Police Ilangovan told the media that she developed a relationship with a man and tortured her child as he told her that the son was not beautiful like her.

"Thulasi had developed a relationship with Prem Kumar following a missed call from his mobile number. They used to have video chats. The woman's hatred for the toddler grew only after Prem Kumar had told her that the premature-born second child is not beautiful like her and she was no longer beautiful after giving birth to him. He had also asked her to get a divorce so that they can marry. And, it was he who had told her to go to her maternal home,” Ilangovan explained.

"Thulasi is now lodged at the Cuddalore Central Prison. We are searching for Prem Kumar and a special team has been pressed to Chennai for this purpose,” he added.

Tamil Nadu Minority Welfare Minister 'Gingee' Masthan on Tuesday visited the family of the boy and gave cash assistance of Rs 10,000 towards medical expenses of the child.
