Tamil Nadu: Policeman shoots himself dead in Sivaganga

A police constable attached to the Sivaganga armed reserve police battalion committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Tamil Nadu's Thirupattur. The reason behind the act is yet to be known.

Sivaganga (Tamil Nadu): A 24-year-old policeman allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself on the head in Tamil Nadu's Thirupattur town on Monday morning.

According to police, the deceased named Yogeshwaran was on guard duty at the Indian Bank at Thirupattur.

After completing his night duty he went to his room which was located above the same bank.

Yogeswaran went to a bathroom and locked himself inside it. He shot himself on his head using an SLR type rifle, which was issued to him.

On hearing the gunshot, his room-mates and bank officials rushed to the bathroom and found him in a pool of blood with a gun wound.

Yogeswaran, a 2013 batch constable, had been serving in the Coimbatore armed reserve police battalion before he was transferred to Sivaganga district. He was a native of Arittapatti village near Melur, located around 50km away from Thirupattur.

The reason behind the suicide is yet to be known and further investigation into the matter is underway.
