Tamil Nadu doctor screens patient from 5 metres away, transferred

A doctor at a primary health centre in Tamil Nadu's Villupuram district was transferred after a viral video showed him screening a patient with a torch from a distance of five metres.

Villupuram: A doctor in Tamil Nadu's Villupuram district fell in trouble after the unique method he had employed to screen a patient out of fear of coronavirus, went viral on social media.

According to reports, a youngster came in to the primary health centre (PHC) in Kandamangalam, complaining of a sore throat on June 9.

However, he was made to stand beyond the ramp at the entrance of the hospital, while the doctor, sitting inside, screened him with a torchlight from a distance of five metres.

The entire incident was recorded by another patient who had also come for treatment.

In the video, the doctor can be seen handing over a prescription to a female worker, who in turn hands it over to the patient.

Soon after, the video went viral across social media platforms, following which the Villupuram health department took action against the doctor and ordered his transfer.
