Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP state office bearer of its SC/ ST wing was hacked to death after a country-made bomb attack near Chennai on Thursday night, officials said. The deceased BJP leader has been identified as PPG Shankar. According to police, the incident happened when PPG Shankar was returning in a car from Chennai late on Thursday night.
When the car reached near Nasaratpet traffic signal on the Poonamalle highway, a mysterious gang suddenly intercepted Shankar’s car and threw a country bomb on the car, police said. Stunned by the attack, Shankar stopped the car and ran away. However, one more gang continued to chase him and hacked him to death after which the assailants they fled away.

Shankar died on the spot in the attack, police said. On notice, the Nasaratpet police rushed to the spot and recovered Shankar’s body and sent it to Kilpauk Government Hospital in Chennai for autopsy. The police examined the CCTV footage in the area where the incident took place and have registered murder charges against unidentified persons.
Further probe into the incident is underway. According to police sources, there are more than 15 cases including criminal cases pending against the slain BJP leader Shankar. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai condemned the incident and blamed the ruling MK Stalin led DMK government responsible for the killing.
Annamalai said that there was a “complete law and order failure in the state”. Police have formed a special team to crack the blind murder case. A massive manhunt has been launched by the Tamil Nadu police to nab the assailants.
