Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu): In a strange sight, statues of former Tamil Nadu chief ministers CN Annadurai and MG Ramachandran were seen donning face-masks amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in Coimbatore.
According to reports, some unidentified person had put face-masks on the statues of the two leaders situated near the bus stop in the city's Nanjundapuram locality.
Subsequently, a few locals removed the masks from the statues.
Over the past few weeks, many statues of famous personalities across the world were seen sporting face-masks to spread awareness among the people.

Earlier on May 27, the official Twitter account of the Superintendent of Police, Mayurbhanj, Odisha had posted a picture which showed several such statues with face-masks. The post featured included the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; along with a statue of martial art icon Bruce Lee wearing a mask.

Back in India, the priest at Varanasi's Prahladeshwar temple had put a face-mask on the Shivling in order to spread awareness during the early days of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu reported its highest spike of 2,532 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, taking the total tally to 59,377. The state also reported 53 fresh fatalities, taking the total death toll to 757.
