Remdesivir stolen from Madurai Rajaji Hospital

After eight boxes of Remdesivir went missing from Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital, police has started investigating the matter. The worth of the stolen drugs is estimated to be Rs 4 lakhs on the black market.

Madurai: As the second wave of COVID19 pandemic rages across the nation, eight boxes of Remdesivir drugs went missing from Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Tamil Nadu.

An exclusive COVID19 care facility is functioning at GRH. The number of cases in the district is steadily increasing of late.

Under these circumstances, the hospital management informed the police that eight boxes of Remdesivir drugs stored in the hospital went missing. Following the complaint, the police are conducting an investigation probing from all angles. The staff working in the drug storage warehouse as well as hospital staff are also being questioned.

The Madhichiyam Crime Branch police are studying the CCTV footage and forensic experts are collecting finger prints from the crime spot.

According to hospital sources the actual worth of the drug is Rs 30,000 but its value on the black market is Rs 4 lakhs.

Of late, looting of the Remdesivir has been reported across the country as criminals make huge profits from the illegal sale of the drug.
