Prisoner slits throat in front of judge, says officials torture him

In a shocking incident at Madras High Court premises, a prisoner serving a life sentence alleged that prison guards are torturing him and slit his throat in front of the Judge.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu): Pandian, a prisoner serving a life sentence, alleged that prison guards are torturing him and to elucidate his point, Pandian cut his neck with a blade in front of the judge, causing a stir in court.

Pandian, from Vyasarpadi area, is convicted in a murder case and serving a life sentence in jail. He appeared before the 4th Additional Sessions Court judge Ravi inside Madras High Court premises for another case hearing.

At that time, Pandian suddenly slit his throat with a blade, which he had hidden in his hand and told the judge that he was being tortured by prison officials. He said he would write a letter in this regard and requested the judge to take appropriate action.

Following this incident, police immediately rushed him to Stanley Government Hospital.

Police are investigating how the prisoner managed to sneak in a blade despite being properly checked. They are also looking into whether he procured the blade inside the prison.
