Chennai: One more lion of the Vandalur zoological park has died of Covid-19. More than 2,000 animals and birds are kept at the Arignar Anna Vandalur Zoological park, next to Tambaram.
The zoo was closed earlier in the lockdown, and strict safety measures were imposed by the management. Despite that, a 9-year-old lioness named Neela died earlier which was suspected as having covid symptoms.
Subsequently, samples of the lioness' carcass were sent to the National Institute for Animal Diseases in Bhopal for analysis and it was confirmed that the lioness died due to Covid-19 infection.

Following that all the remaining 11 lions' blood was collected and tested. Among them, 9 of the lions were given intensive treatment after being confirmed to be infected.
And now one more lion has died due to the virus.
