Koyambedu (Tamil Nadu): With the coronavirus spreading to various parts of Tamil Nadu from the Koyambedu Vegetable Market, the Koyambedu Vegetable Market has become an important hotspot now.
In Tamil Nadu, 2 thousand 757 people are affected with coronavirus infection. Of these, 257 belong to Chennai. The prevalence of infection in Chennai has been increasing on a large scale in recent times. The Koyambedu vegetable market has been the predominant cause for this.
The coronavirus infecting initially two truck drivers and a coriander dealer has now spread to many people who were in contact or had business with the affected and they have since been diagnosed for coronavirus. As of today, 90 persons connected with the Koyambedu vegetable market have been confirmed infected with coronavirus.
Vegetables, fruits and flowers from various states used to come to the Koyambedu vegetable market. In particular, very common day-to-day vegetables come from the highly coronavirus infected state of Maharashtra every day. Similarly, vegetables, fruits and flowers come also from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Truck drivers come to the Koyambedu vegetable after loading them from many parts of various states.
The truck drivers are not being tested. They are in close contact with vegetable dealers. Also, there were no restrictions imposed on vegetable buyers from among the common people. A large number of the public have come to the market without adhering to the social distancing norm. It is said that the officers did not take action to monitor and regulate them.
The epidemic has spread from the shoppers throughout Tamil Nadu through the public and small traders visiting the Koyambedu vegetable market. The coronavirus was first reported to have spread from the Huanan seafood market in Wuhan, China's Hubei province. Scientists say the onslaught of the virus has spread to the entire world only from there. It has been reported that in this non-vegetarian food market, the birds and animals, have been insecurely cut and untidily kept and those who came here have spread the virus.
Currently, coronavirus infection is spreading from the Koyambedu vegetable market across the state. The Koyambedu market remained largely unnoticed, amidst heavy restrictions placed on meat stalls, fish markets and hubs in Chennai to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The Koyambedu market has thus become a hot spot for the coronavirus silently. As of today, 90 persons connected with the Coimbatore vegetable market have been reported infected with the coronavirus.
More than 90 people, including retailers, workers and customers from many districts, have been confirmed to have contracted the Covid-19 epidemic, from this market complex which sprawls over 300 acres. The government is engaged in a wartime effort to trace those who have been in contact with the affected.
Of the 90 persons with confirmed corona infections, 50 hail from Chennai, 18 from Ariyalur, two from Villupuram and one from Perambalur. According to the health department, two people have been infected with the virus in Cuddalore which has now risen to nine more visitors to the market.
