New Delhi: Following the seizure of ₹11.5 crore cash from a warehouse in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district, the Election Commission is expected to decide the issue of cancelling the election in the Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday.
Reports suggested that the Election Commission had received a "damaging" report from the state's Chief Electoral Officer on misuse of money power and that cancelling the election was a likely option.
The issue would reportedly be discussed on Tuesday.
Polls in the constituency are likely to be canceled over excess use of money power, reports suggested.
The Election Commission is learnt to have prepared a recommendation in this regard to be sent to the president.
Since the president signs the notification for Lok Sabha elections, it is he who rescinds it.
The development comes after the Income Tax Department had seized Rs 11.5 crore cash from a cement warehouse belonging to a DMK official.
The district police had filed a complaint against DMK candidate Kathir Anand as well as two party functionaries on the basis of a report from the Income Tax department on April 10.
