Chennai docs remove 20kg tumour from 51-yr-old woman

20 kg of tumour has been removed from the abdomen of a 54-year-old woman in Chennai's Egmore. There was also a drastic change in the woman's weight as she recorded 35 kg on the scales after the surgery.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu): Doctors at Government Hospital for Women and Children - Egmore, operated and removed a massive 20 kg tumour from a woman on Tuesday.

What seemed like a normal stomach pain was diagnosed to be a cancerous tumour for the 51-year-old woman, a resident of Chennai's Chromepet.

Though, she underwent treatment at a local hospital, the woman decided to seek better care as the pain did not subside.

At the Government Hospital for Women and Children, her pain was diagnosed to be a ovarian tumour and the doctors advised surgery to get it removed.

The doctors successfully removed the tumuor and the woman is doing well.

There was also a drastic change in the woman's weight as she recorded 35 kg on the scales after the surgery. The tumour contributed 20 kg of her overall body weight, doctors said.

They also said that it was a risky surgery as there was a high chance of the tumour rupturing during the operation, and had to be removed without any damage to the lungs.

In this regard, Senior surgeon Dr Seethalakshmi urged the women to undergo tests, especially after the age of 45 year, to detect such abnormalties and ensure optimal health.

Rathi (51) from chennai chromepet suffers with stomach pain and for that same she regularly got medical treatment with doctor near her place. But she didnt feels better and decide to get treatment in chennai egmore Maternity and Women's Hospital. After examining there doctorsfound a tumour in rathi's ovary.



Later on they decide to remove and proceed surgery. 20kg weight of tumour removed from rathi ovary and after the surgery she doing well.



we found the tumour removed from patient ovary is a cancer tumour. It was a big challenge and difficult to remove that tumour without affecting lungs, liver and kidney.Becuaseof possiblility of cancer tumour to affect other organs. Before surgery patient weight was 55kg and now she reduced to 35 kg.



There is a possiblity of tumour growth in ovary for the ladies, if periods stops. So ladies after periods stop can have a test regarding this be prevent for their health. And also women after at age of 45 should carry this kind of test to prevent from cancer, says  chennai egmore Maternity and Women's Hospital director and surgeon professor seethalakshmi.
