Madurai (Tamil Nadu): The election promises of an independent candidate has attracted the attention of social media. He has been trolled for dishing out unimaginable promises. Among others, he promised the voters a trip to the moon, a three-story house with a luxury car, 100 sovereign gold jewellery with cash of Rs 1 crore every year.
As the political parties including AIADMK, DMK, BJP and Makkal Neethi Maiam, have offered various promises in their manifesto, if they were elected to power in the April 6 General Assembly Poll, some candidates were engaged in washing clothes of women, making tea at a roadside shop and engaged in farm activities during their campaign. Parties have promised gold jewellery, livestock, mobile phones, TVs, fans, mixer-grinders, washing machines, LPG cylinders and solar cooktops to the voters. In line with this, an independent candidate for election to the Madurai South Assembly Constituency has come out with unimaginable promises to the voters during the campaign and assured the moon to the voters.

Thulam Saravanan, an independent candidate for Madurai South, has issued 35 promises, which raised the eyebrows of the people in the State. The freebies include helicopters, iPhones, three-storey houses with swimming pools to every household in his constituency. The candidate has promised to deposit Rs 1 crore to the account every year to voters. He has also promised to send every person in his constituency to the moon on a vacation.
He also assured a luxury car with a value of Rs 20 lakh, 300 ft artificial glacier to fight hot summer, 100 sovereigns of gold jewellery to the bride and a robot for the benefit of homemakers.
When asked Saravanan about the possibility of fulfilling the promises, he said this is possible if he is in power. Saravanan, seeking votes on the dustbin symbol, has a liability of Rs 4 lakh and only Rs 10,000 in hand. He is fighting against candidates from the DMK alliance, the AIADMK and AMMK, in Madurai South. He has been trolled on social media for giving unimaginable promises.
