Jaipur: The recovery of more than Rs 2 crore cash and a gold bar weighing one kg from an almirah has created a furore in Rajasthan capital Jaipur's administrative circle. The huge cash was stuffed in a laptop bag and a gold bar weighing one kg was kept in a trolley bag (suitcase). It was found in a cupboard kept in the basement of the Yojana Bhavan office.
Officials from the Jaipur administration were at wit's end after the recovery of the huge amount and a gold bar from the almirah. In a hurriedly called press conference, Jaipur police commissioner Anand Srivastava while talking to reporters, said, "The cash and gold bar were recovered from almirah, which was locked for a long time. There were several offices in the basement of the Yojana Bhavan. The digitation process has been undertaken for the Information Technology office. All files are being digitised. The additional director, who takes care of the upkeep of the office, informed the police about the recovery of the huge cash and gold bar. The seizure report as per the rule was prepared. Eight persons have been taken into custody in this regard."
"We are trying to find out, who was responsible for keeping such a huge cash, in the office almirah. From where the money came from. What was the purpose of keeping such a large amount of cash in an almirah? Two cupboards in the office were locked for a long time. Keys to the almirahs were missing. Earlier, efforts were made to find out the keys. Finally, the locks were broken to open the almirahs. In one almirah, only files were found, whereas in another almirah cash amounting to rupees two crores seventy-one lakh and forty-nine thousand and five hundred were recovered. Apart from this, a gold bar weighing one kg was also recovered."
