Rajasthan spurious liquor deaths: Excise official, SHO suspended

As many as eight people were killed and several others hospitalised after consuming spurious liquor in Roopwas area of Bharatpur district. Meanwhile, the station house officer (SHO) of the area and an excise official have also been suspended.

Bharatpur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday has ordered a thorough probe into the deaths of eight people after consuming spurious liquor in Roopwas area of Bharatpur district and suspended as many as 13 police officials.

Police said that the victims had consumed spurious liquor on Tuesday and complained of vomiting and diarrhoea.

Meanwhile, the station house officer (SHO) of the area and an excise official have also been suspended. The Chief Minister said the spurious liquor tragedy in Bharatpur district was extremely sad and unfortunate.

However, the opposition party attacked the ruling government and asked for clarifications over the mishap.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, BJP State president Dr Satish Poonia said that there have been several cases of deaths related to spurious liquor. Despite, the government seems lethargic over the issue.

"We have discussed the issues related to the involvement of some big names in the hooch tragedy. Despite, they seem unreactive over the matter", added Poonia.

Meanwhile, State health minister Dr Subash Garg said that the compensation amount already given to the family members lost their loved ones and also the state government has transferred an amount of Rs 50,000 who are undergoing treatment.

The police are investigating the matter and only after the postmortem reports the actual cause of deaths can be known. The villagers are being asked whether anyone fell sick due to consumption of alcohol.
