New Delhi: After Supreme Court rejected Rajasthan Assembly Speaker's petition to interfere in High Court's order over the disqualification notices to 19 rebel MLAs, Congress-led state government is mulling over to go for a floor test in the Assembly session to establish a majority.
However, the party has yet to make a decision but it is also looking for a possibility to call the Assembly session next week to discuss various issues, including Coronavirus. Congress is waiting for the High Court's order on the plea filed by its rebel MLAs.
While addressing the press conference, Congress leader and the observer in Rajasthan political crisis, Ajay Maken said, "We have got the numbers with us. We'll prove majority on the floor of the house. A section of the party believes that we should wait for the HC decision and then we should go for the floor test."
He claimed that there will be at least a difference of 15-20 MLAs between those who will be supporting the Government and those who won't. However, the final decision to call for an assembly session or a floor test will be taken soon, he said.
The Congress leader also stated that technically, there is no need to wait for Supreme Court's order to conduct a floor test in Rajasthan.
He further explained, "We don't have to wait for anything. If we got a majority in the floor test, we will get six months time and during that period, no one can challenge us."
When asked about Sachin Pilot, Maken said, "We are repeatedly asking him to come and share his issues. Does the elected MLAs of a party ask for a floor test of their own CM? And if yes, then does he consider himself as a part of the party? Are you a part of the opposition party?"
Earlier today, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also said that an assembly session will be called soon but date and time haven't been fixed till now. He also claimed that some of the MLAs from Pilot camp are also going to support the government.
"We will call the assembly session soon, we have a complete majority and we will prove it. Those who have made a mistake are the ones who approached the court," Gehlot told the reporters.
