COVID-19: 'Pride and Honour' come first for these tribals in Rajasthan's Sirohi

The lockdown has already disproportionately hurt marginalized communities due to loss of livelihood and lack of food, shelter, health, and other basic needs. Although, this didn't deter tribals of Rajasthan's Sirohi district as they refused to accept essential aid for free and chose not to compromise on their self-respect.

Although, they might have become vulnerable, but are so firm on their self-respect, that the people of 'Mai Bharat organisation,' who came to help them, were also left astonished.

Whether children, women or elderly people, everyone has the same thing to say that they might be suffering but they won't accept any aid for free.

Keeping their self-respect intact, these tribals agreed to take food grains and other essential items in lieu of work.

After listening to their demands, the officials of the 'Mai Bharat organization,' who came here to help, returned for once, but when they came back, they returned not only with food grains for the tribals but also with work and tasks.

President of 'Mai Bharat Organisation’, Ritesh Sharma said, "When tribals expressed their desire to work in front of the people of the organization, then we also considered it and the tribals were entrusted with the task of making masks, bags, various gift items and face shields."

He further said that initially there was a problem because they did not know how to make masks. But to solve this, training was given to the tribal women through video calls.

"Along with this, women were also given the training to make face shields. After getting training, a large number of women are making masks and face shields," Sharma added.

It is to be noted that the ‘Mai Bharat Organisation’ has also assigned them the task to make chapatis for animals. In return of their work, these poor tribals are being given wheat, millet, maize and jaggery.
