Jodhpur (Rajasthan): The Jodhpur bench of Rajasthan high court has agreed for an early hearing of the bail plea of Asaram Bapu who is currently serving life imprisonment in Jodhpur jail for sexually assaulting a minor in his ashram.
The high court bench headed by Justices Sandeep Mehta and Judge Rameshwar Vyas has agreed to hear the plea in the third week of January 2021.
Earlier, Asaram Bapu through senior advocates Jagmal Chaudhary and Pradeep Chaudhary had filed a plea in High court for the early hearing of the case citing his old age.

Pertinent to mention, Asaram was arrested by Rajasthan Police from Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara Ashram and brought to Jodhpur on September 1, 2013. He is in jail since then.
On April 25th 2018, Asaram was found guilty of sexually assaulting a minor girl in his ashram after which he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
During the last seven years, Asaram has not been granted bail even after appeals from the subordinate court to the High Court and the Supreme Court.
