Alwar: Rajendra Singh who is known as the Waterman of India has alleged that the government is responsible for the water problems in Rajasthan.
Speaking exclusively to ETV Bharat he said, "The River Basin Management Bill that the government is bringing will hand over the charge of water in the state to private companies. This is similar to India being sold to the East India Company."
Singh who won the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2001, has accused the government of the flood and drought situations in the different regions of India and Rajasthan.
He said, "The Modi government can install taps in every household, but it will never be able to provide water into them."
He went on to say that he has provided water in villages that were deprived of water with the help of other villages that have it. But the government is not putting enough efforts in the restoration of the water.
"The introduction of the new Bill will not solve the water problem in the state as the groundwater level in the state has already gone very low," he said.
He added that two French companies have already privatized water in 18 villages of the state. If the government does not take appropriate steps in the matter, it could be a disaster for the state, Singh said.
