Tribute through Art! Rajasthan artist makes oil paintings of martyrs

Chandra Prakash Gupta, a painter, from Rajasthan's Jaipur pays tribute to the martyrs who lost their lives for the country by making their oil painting. He also gifted the paintings to the martyrs' families. He has received various state awards and praise for his works.

Jaipur (Rajasthan): Everyone has their way of paying tribute to those soldiers who lay down their life for the motherland. Chandra Prakash Gupta, a painter, from Jaipur has paid his tribute to the soldiers who got martyred in the Kargil war. In the last 20 years, the artist has made more than 270 oil paintings of sons of the soil, which he gives to relatives of the martyrs.

He said that he always wanted to do something for those who sacrificed their lives for the motherland and that is why he began oil painting, he has also recently completed an oil painting of Seekar resident, Delhi police constable Ratanlal who passed away in the Delhi riots. He also said that once the lockdown ends he will himself go and gift the painting to the martyred constable’s family.

He told correspondents that to gift his first oil painting, he went to Kota to meet the family of Anil Ahuja who was martyred in the Kargil war. He has made oil paintings of Pulwama martyrs too.

Chandra Prakash Gupta recently made the oil painting of 22-year-old martyr soldier Saurabh Katara and gifted it to his family.

In the Pulwama attack, five soldiers from Rajasthan lost their lives. Out of them, the painter reported that he had given his oil paintings to 4 of the 5 families. He said that he meets bereaved families a few months after the soldiers lose their lives and not only does he gift them oil paints as memoirs of their soldier’s bravery but also listens to their problems and suggest measures if possible.

He also tries to solve, like a son, the problems these families face.

Has received a commendation letter and State award

In 2000, Chandra Prakash Gupta was given a commendation letter by then-president KR Narayanan. In 2001, he has received a State Award. Other than this he has also received scores of awards from different organizations. Notably, Gupta has had the opportunity to paint erstwhile president KR Narayanan in the Rashtrapati Bhawan where he made an oil painting of the president before him and gifted the same.
