Jaisalmer: Three people reportedly got injured when a barrel of one of the 155 mm/52 calibre howitzer guns, exploded during a test firing here.
The howitzer guns are being developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in collaboration with the private sector companies for the Indian Army.
According to the sources, the injured, all civilians, are being treated in the Army Hospital. However, there has been no official communication on the reported incident either from the Indian Army or the DRDO.
The indigenously built guns are being tested for the past few months in the Pokhran field firing range, and the incident took place when the final test fires were being conducted, they said.
The 155 mm/52 calibre howitzer guns are to be inducted in the Indian Army after the final experiments and tests are done.
