116 prisoners, jail superintendent test corona positive in Rajasthan; prisoners separated

In a special interaction with ETV Bharat, Jail DIG Vikas Kumar elaborated on the precautions being taken in the prison to prevent the spread of the infection.

Jaipur: As many as 116 prisoners and the jail Superintendent of Jaipur District Jail in Rajasthan were tested coronavirus positive.

After such a large number of positive cases, there was panic in the prison and now, the jail administration is taking special precautions to avoid the infection from spreading further.

In a special interaction with ETV Bharat, Jail DIG Vikas Kumar elaborated on the precautions being taken by them to prevent the spread of infection.

Kumar said, "Now, as many as 480 prisoners are lodged in Jaipur District Jail. When initially nine prisoners, including the jail superintendent, were found to be corona infected, all the healthy people have been separated from the infected ones. After this, a total of 116 infected people have been found in Jaipur District Jail."

"Reports of some prisoners are yet to come. Those, who are above 55, are being shifted to hospital. For the rest, we are converting three wards into a hospital in jail premises where they are being treated by the health workers," Kumar said.

"The District Jail has been completely evacuated. Prisoners who were in jail have been shifted to other jails. Now any new prisoner, who comes to the jail is being sent to Dausa District Jail, where they are being screened and they are being kept in the isolation ward. Along with this, their health check-ups are constantly being done," Kumar said.

"Some days ago, there was panic in the Jaipur District Jail after a prisoner was found to be coronavirus positive. Since then, new cases are being reported continuously. Now, we are taking special precautions. The jail administration has also sent samples of security personnel to hospitals for testing. So far a total of 116 people have been found infected with coronavirus in the investigation report," Kumar added.
