The arrest of the three accused on Friday comes amid a high alert over unconfirmed reports about Amritpal's “surrender” before the Punjab Police on the occasion of Baisakhi. Amritpal Singh, the head of the pro-Khalistan outfit Waris Punjab De, remains elusive after Punjab police launched a massive crackdown against the Khalistan outfit on Mar. 18.

The operation was launched after Amritpal led violent storming of Ajnala police station in Amritsar. The por-Khalistan supporters stormed into the police station to secure the release of Waris Punjab De leader Lovepreet Singh Toofan. Pertinently, Toofan too remains absconding since the operation was launched against Amritpal.

The operation against Amritpal has led to a diplomatic war between India and the UK after pro-Khalistan supporters stormed into the Indian High Commission in London and took down the tricolor atop the High Commission. In a retaliatory action, the Indian government had removed the security barricades outside the British High Commission in New Delhi.

Pertinently, Amritpal is believed to have been seen in Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan bordering Punjab. Rajasthan Police on Wednesday night launched a massive search operation in Hanumangarh district and nearby areas following specific inputs about the presence of Amritpal there.
