New Delhi: After Shiromani Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal resigned from the Union Cabinet, displaying her opposition to the three agriculture-related bills, former leader of SAD Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa termed the move a mere 'gimmick' of the party.
Speaking exclusively to ETV Bharat Dhindsa said," I was associated with Shiromani Akali Dal for a long time and had worked with Prakash Singh Badal. If Shiromani Akali Dal was actually concerned about farmers then why this resignation had not been proposed before the legislations were finalised and tabled in the Lok Sabha.
The decision of Kaur resignation from the Union Cabinet seems a mere 'gimmick' of the party and it is a preplanned move of the party to save itself from the farmer agitation in Punjab, he added.
On asking if this decision will have any impact on Punjab Assembly Elections due in 2022, Dhindsa said," It will have no impact. People know about Shiromani Akali Dal."
Badal, who had resigned from the Union Cabinet, displaying her opposition to the three agriculture-related bills, said that she is not playing any politics but had demanded the government to bring the bills after consultation with the stakeholders.
She said after President Ram Nath Kovind accepted her resignation from the Union Council of Ministers, Badal said she had tried multiple times to make the government understand her point of view.
