Amritsar: Two Bihar policemen pasted summons in a case involving the violation of the election code outside Amritsar MLA Navjot Singh Sidhu's residence as they failed to meet the Congress leader.
According to officials, Sub-Inspectors Janardan Ram and Javed Ahmed pasted the summons outside the leader's residence on Tuesday. Both policemen returned to Bihar on Wednesday, they said.
Earlier, Katihar SP Vikas Kumar had said the two-member team had been camping outside the former Punjab minister's residence in Amritsar but neither Sidhu is present nor anybody else has received the summons on his behalf.
"We have been here since June 18. We sit here for 4-5 hours but nobody comes to receive the notice. We have pasted the notice on the wall and returning back until further orders from the higher authority," Sub-Inspector Janardan Ram said.
Nobody at the Sidhu's residence gave them information about the former minister's whereabouts, one of the Bihar cops had earlier told the media.
The Congress legislator was booked in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls on charge of violating the model code of conduct by exhorting Muslim voters to unite and vote en bloc against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A first information report was registered with the Barsoi police station in Katihar district in April last year on the directive of the Election Commission.
Sidhu was at that time campaigning for Tariq Anwar of the Congress. "Modi will be done for. He will go for a six," Sidhu allegedly told the voters.
