2 killed in blast in Tarn Taran; NIA team called

Two men were killed and one was injured in a blast in Tarn Taran district of Punjab. The cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained as there were no eyewitness accounts.

Chandigarh: Two persons were killed and one was seriously injured in a blast that took place in an agricultural field in Pandori village in Punjab's Tarn Taran district on Thursday.

"Two persons were killed and one was injured in this blast," Inspector General of Police (Border Range) SPS Parmar told a news agency.

The police have called a team of National Investigation Team for the probe.

"An NIA team has arrived at Pandori village and they are carrying out the post-blast investigation," said Parmar.

Investigators wanted to find out the material which had triggered the explosion, the police said.

As per reports, the blast occurred when the three persons were digging the ground in Pandori Gola village.

This comes a day after a blast occurred in a firecracker factory in Gurdaspur city, which claimed around 23 lives and left 27 others injured.

         The incident took place on Wednesday evening, police said, adding it was yet to be ascertained how this blast took place.

         An NIA team of two-three experts has arrived at Pandori village and they are carrying out the post-blast investigation, said Parmar.

         There was no eyewitness of this incident. Therefore it is difficult to know how it occurred, said Parmar, adding one who was grievously injured in the blast is undergoing surgery.
