Wanted Maoist rebel surrenders in Odisha

Mahadev Madkami, a Maoist, who had Rs 2 lakh reward on his head, surrendered before the Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP), Rishikesh Dnyandeo Khilari at the Malkangiri district police headquarters. He joined the division of the outlawed organisation in 2015.

Malkangiri (Odisha): Top Maoist fighter Mahadev Madkami who carried a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head, surrendered before the Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) in Odisha on Sunday.

Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Khilari said, "He is impressed with the development works in Odisha and Chhattisgarh."

"The state government had earlier announced Rs 2 lakh in the name of Mahadev. After Surrender he will be provided with assistance as per the government's rule," added Khillari.

Mahadev is a military platoon member of the Chhattisgarh-Odisha Darva division under the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) organisation. And several cases registered against him in various police stations of Malkangiri district.

"Mahadev will be provided with monetary assistance as per the Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of the Odisha government and financial assistance for the building of the house, pursuing studies and training in a trade/vocational of their liking," the SP added.

Mahadev joined the Maoist organisation in 2015. According to police records, he was involved in several murders and exchange of fire with security forces. The Odisha government had declared a reward of Rs 2 lakh for his capture.

Reportedly, he surrendered before Malkangiri SP, at the district police headquarters saying he wished to lead a normal life.
