Subarnpur (Odisha): In an unusual incident, a woman gave birth to as many as four premature babies in Odisha’s Subarnpur district on Tuesday . Unfortunately, all of the infants have died.
According to reports, one Minati Munda of Jhinki village gave birth to two babies in the morning.
As her labour pain continued, she was taken to the Subarnpur District Headquarters Hospital, where the woman delivered two more babies.
All of the newborns died due to premature delivery, hospital sources said, adding that the woman is undergoing treatment at the DHH and her condition is stable.
Every year almost three and half million babies are born prematurely in India which accounts almost for 13% of births in the country. A premature baby is defined as a baby born alive before 37 weeks of pregnancy. The duration of normal pregnancy is 40 weeks.
