Cuttack: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation officials seized bulk of expired buns and packets of bread during an inspection at the multi-national fast-food chain KFC's outlet at Badambadi in Cuttack on Tuesday. As per reports, officials have also confiscated cooked food items including non-vegetarian food and fried rice which did not have any printed packaging date.
The civic body acted on complaints raising allegations that substandard, expired food items were served to customers in the outlet. A top CMC official said that the seized food items have been sent to a lab for further analysis. The official added that if the test report corroborates the allegations, notice will be issued to the restaurant and sealed subsequently.
Speaking to media, CMC health officer, Dr Satyabrata Mohapatra said, “Though we have received complaints, it was a scheduled inspection too which revealed that the restaurant was using buns and bread which have been expired.”
