Puri: A controversial cartoon featured the holy trinity of Puri's Jagannath temple in Odisha has sparked outrage among the servitors of the temple on Sunday.

According to reports, the servitors of Lord Jagannath temple found the cartoon's message offensive as Lord Jagannath and his siblings were featured with thermometers in this cartoon after the ceremonial bath called 'Snana Yatra'.

"The cartoon's message is so offensive. No one can feature the lord of the world (Jagannath Ji) like this. We are strongly condemning this kind of artistic work. We don't know who has done this but that person has to apologise for his wrong interpretation of the holy trinity's ritual," said, Binayak Das Mohapatra, senior servitor, Puri Temple.

"Jagannath Ji is considered as the Lord of the universe and for every religions' devotee, we observe Rath Yatra every year. As per tradition, the holy trinity is worshipped by Daitapatis and Raj Vaidya in Anasara Ghara secretly. This is an insult to the ritual of Shri Jagannath and we are demanding action against the cartoon maker. Cybercrime department should find the accused person," he added.

Notably, the festivities coincide with 'Snana Yatra' of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra with 108 pitchers of water. As per tradition, the Lords catch fever after the ritualistic bath fever for which they are worshipped by Daitapatis and Raj Vaidya in Anasara Ghara secretly.

During the 'Anasar' period, devotees worship the paintings of the holy trinity as substitutes and as per the servitors, the cartoon featured the holy trinity in the secret room depicts an offensive message, sources added.
