NHRC seeks report on Bhubaneswar petrol pump blast

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) from the two government officials regarding the Bhubaneswar petrol station blast. Notably, a major fire broke out at the petrol station as an underground fuel storage tank caught fire which led to the mishap along with an explosion.

Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) from the Secretary of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Odisha Chief Secretary in connection with the explosion at a petrol station near Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on October 7.

According to reports, one human rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy had lodged a complaint with the commission regarding the incident which claimed a person's life and left several others injured.

Acting on the complaint, the NHRC has directed the two officials to submit the report regarding the incident within 4 weeks.

Reportedly, seven people were injured and one person was killed after a massive blaze broke out at the filling station in Odisha capital on October 7.

The intensity of the explosion was so high that it felt like an earthquake.

The explosion also ripped a portion of the petrol pump's roof and even destroyed a few vehicles parked there.
