Jharsuguda (Odisha): Train services were affected after at least four bogies of a goods laden train derailed near Lajpura coal sliding in Odisha's Jharsuguda on Sunday.
According to sources, the incident took place this morning when a coal-laden train was en route to Jharsuguda. Meanwhile, a wagon of the train went off the track causing the derailment of three wagons from the line.
At least 59 wagons loaded with coal got detached from the engine at around 4 am and moved backward up to a distance of one km before hitting a coal pit, sources said.
Following this, train traffic was disrupted on the route due to the mishap. Coal transportation is expected to be disrupted for the next few days due to the derailment of freight trains.
On being alerted about the incident, railway officials along with the mechanical staff swung into action and carried out the restoration work, sources added.
