Nabarangpur: In a bizarre incident, a man hailing from Nabarangpur district of Odisha allegedly sold his nine-month-old baby boy for Rs 10000, for his daily dose of liquor!
The matter came to light after the wife of the accused lodged a police complaint against her husband.
As per the complaint, Sagaram Lohar of Pujariguda village went to a nearby temple along with his wife Sanamati. After reaching there, he forcibly took away the baby from her and handed him over to two persons who were waiting outside the temple.
Sanamati also alleged that her husband thrashed her badly when she objected to the heinous crime.
After selling the child, Sagaram went to his in-laws' house. When he was asked about the whereabouts of his child, he said his baby has died but it didn't satisfy the family members.
Smelling something fishy, they asked his wife who later narrated the whole ordeal.
Aggrieved over the incident, the accused was tied to a tree and beaten mercilessly by his in-laws and villagers.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Umerkote police station and investigation into the matter is underway.
