Cops books Haryana girl for posting pictures of Jagannath temple on Instagram

Acting quickly on viral pictures of Srimandir in Puri being posted online, Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) filed a complaint seeking action against a social media user for violation of the temple rules.

Puri (Odisha): A social media user from Haryana has been booked by Odisha police for posting pictures of inner areas of Jagannath Temple on social media.

An FIR was lodged at the Singhadwar Police Station in Puri against Shalini Passi for taking photographs inside the Jagannath Temple and uploading the same on her account on social media website Instagram. The entry of mobile phone and camera to the premises of Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri is strictly prohibited. It has come to notice that one Shalini Passi from Haryana has illegally taken a number of photographs inside the premises of Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri and made it viral through social media i.e her Instagram, the SJTA said in the FIR.

This act is an offence under section 30-A(4)(c) of Shree Jagannath Temple Act, 1955. Besides that by publishing the photographs in social media, the culprit has endangered the security of the temple and such activities has hurt the sentiment of millions of devotees,” the FIR stated.

The fresh incident had put the Srimandir security personnel in the dock for alleged poor frisking at the entrance points of the centuries-old shrine. The security breach came to fore after two photographs clicked from Dakshina Dwar (south gate) of the Srimandir were circulated on Instagram. The photographs were uploaded by the accused on her Instagram profile on February 3.
