Koraput (Odisha): As many as 10 people were killed and 15 injured after a van carrying passengers overturned near Kotpad area of Odisha's Koraput district on Sunday night.
The deceased passengers, mostly women, have been identified as the resident of Kulcha village in Chhattisgarh.
According to sources, the incident took place Sunday night when a pickup van carrying a group of around 30 people from Sindhiguda village in Odisha to their village in Chhattisgarh.
The eyewitnesses said that the vehicle overturned apparently after the driver lost control over the wheels as it was heading very fast.
While 10 people died on the spot, the 15 injured were taken to a hospital in Kotpad. The condition of 10 of the injured was stated to be critical.
Meanwhile, police have reached the spot, recovered the dead bodies and sent them to a hospital for postmortem. Further investigation is underway, sources added.
"Passengers were travelling from Sindhiguda village in Odisha to Kulcha village in Chhattisgarh. They were returning to their village after attending a mourning ritual of a relative. Injured have been shifted to the hospital for treatment," said Madhusudan Mishra, DM Koraput.
