Road caved-in at Mumbai-Goa highway

The portion of the four-lane Mumbai-Goa highway road caved in as deep as 12 feet due to water-logging. The local residents have blamed the lack of preparedness to tackle the monsoon rains as a reason for the cave in.

Sindhudurg (Maharashtra): A portion of Mumbai-Goa highway road caved in on Friday following heavy rains which lashed the state of Maharashtra.

According to the reports, the portion of the four-lane road caved in as deep as 12 feet due to water-logging.

The condition of the roads has remained poor in the area due to the poor quality of materials used during construction.

Besides, the local residents have blamed the lack of preparedness to tackle the monsoon rains as a reason for the cave in. Since the road is used by thousands of commuters every day, residents fear that the waterlogged roads can lead to more such incidents. The traffic police have put several road diversions resulting in severe vehicular traffic congestion. However, no casualties have been reported.
