BJP-led Maha govt will be defeated in Speaker's election: NCP

The BJP-led new government in Maharashtra will be defeated in the Assembly Speaker's election, NCP leader Nawab Malik said on Saturday night.

"The government has been given time till November 30. We will defeat them in the Speaker's election. We are sure the Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP will form the government," Malik said, adding the NCP MLAs will stay in Mumbai.

In a dramatic turn of events, Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the chief minister for a second term with the support of senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar, who sworn in as deputy CM early morning. 

" A resolution was passed unanimously that party does not endorse Ajit Pawar's decision&he has been removed as NCP legislative party leader. Till the election of a new leader, Jayant Patil is given the responsibilities of the post, "he added.

Ajit Pawar removed as NCP legislative party leader

The NCP on Saturday removed Ajit Pawar as its legislature party leader after he joined hands with the BJP to form a government and took oath as the deputy chief minister of the state. Jayant Patil has been elected in his place.

"The decision to sack Ajit Pawar was taken at the meeting of the party's MLAs here," party sources said.

NCP chief Sharad Pawar was present at the meeting.

A total of 50 MLAs are present in the meeting with NCP Chief Sharad Pawar at YB Chavan Centre in Mumbai.

Shiv Sena leaders Milind Narvekar and Eknath Shinde brought with them 2 NCP MLAs Sanjay Bansod and Babasaheb Patil at YB Chavan Center from the Mumbai airport. 

The two NCP MLAs are said to be with NCP leader Ajit Pawar.

7 NCP MLAs who attended Ajit's oath pledge loyalty to sr Pawar

Amidst confusion over the exact number of MLAs attending the swearing-in ceremony of NCP's Ajit Pawar as deputy chief minister of Maharashtra under Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday morning, at least seven legislators claimed to have returned to the party fold and pledged their loyalty to Sharad Pawar.

Ajit, nephew of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, crossed over to the BJP with some legislators and took oath as deputy of Devendra Fadnavis who sworn in as chief minister for a second term.

Dilip Bankar and Manikrao Kokate, the MLAs from Nashik district, tweeted separately saying they were kept in dark about the oath-taking ceremony.

Both the MLAs said they were with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and expressed solidarity with its president.

Decision on Ajit to be taken by disciplinary committee: Sharad Pawar

On the issue of action against Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar said a decision to that effect would be taken by the disciplinary committee. 

Pawar said no action would be taken against those who unknowingly went to Raj Bhavan for the swearing-in and were back in the party fold. 

NCP legislature party meeting would be held later in the day to elect the new leader.

Signatures may have been misused as letter of support: Sharad Pawar

NCP supremo Sharad Pawar said 54 newly-elected legislators of the NCP had signed a paper along with their names and constituencies for internal purpose and these signatures may have been misused as letter of support and submitted to the governor.

"If this is true, the governor has also been misled," Pawar said, adding that the paper may have been taken by Ajit Pawar as the leader of the legislature party.

NCP president Sharad Pawar said the decision of his nephew Ajit Pawar to join hands with the BJP to form a government in Maharashtra was an act of indiscipline and attracts provisions of anti-defection law.

Pawar was addressing a joint press conference with Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai.

He expressed confidence that their alliance still had the numbers to form the government.

'Unknowingly taken to oath ceremony,' claim 3 NCP MLAs

At least three NCP MLAs have claimed that they were unknowingly taken to the oath ceremony by Ajit Pawar.

"Ajit Pawar had called me to discuss something and from there I was taken with other MLAs to Raj Bhavan. Before we could understand oath ceremony was complete. I rushed to Pawar Sahab and told him I am with Sharad Pawar and NCP," NCP MLA Rajendra Shingane said.

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Reacting to the surprise development in Maharashtra where Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the Chief Minister, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar said that the decision to support the BJP was taken by his nephew Ajit Pawar in personal capacity, and the party did not endorse the same.

Taking to Twitter, Pawar wrote, "Ajit Pawar's decision to support the BJP to form the Maharashtra Government is his personal decision and not that of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). We place on record that we do not support or endorse this decision of his."
