Satara (Maharashtra): Mahabaleshwar, the famous hill station in Maharashtra, has received record rainfall this year. The place has received 2829 mm of rainfall in the last nine days. The highest rainfall of 480 and 574 mm was recorded on July 22 and 23 this year. According to the meteorological department, Mahabaleshwar receives 2064.4 mm of rainfall in July. This year, however, 2829 mm of rainfall has been recorded from July 19 till now. It received 480 and 574 mm of rainfall on July 22, 23, and 24 respectively.
According to Vishal Ramachandran, Scientific Assistant, Meteorological Department, Mahabaleshwar has received 480 mm of rainfall on July 22. The next day, on July 23, 594.4 mm of rain was recorded. The previous record was 439.8 mm on July 7, 1977.

The low-pressure belt formed in the Bay of Bengal has increased the westerly winds. Due to the low-pressure area created on the west coast, the clouds carrying moisture are hitting the hills in the Mahabaleshwar area. The clouds gathered in the place and it rained heavily in the area. This is the reason why Mahabaleshwar has received record rainfall in a short time.

After Mahabaleshwar, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts also received maximum rainfall in the last nine days. Due to this heavy torrential rain, waterlogging was everywhere near Vennalake on the main road of Mahabaleshwar Panchgani. Many homes, including farms, and hotels and restaurants in the area were flooded. The five rivers Koyna, Krishna, Savitri, Gayatri, and Venna originate in Mahabaleshwar in the Satara district. This year, Mahabaleshwar received heavy rains and a large amount of water from this river is said to have flowed into the Konkan region of Ratnagiri.
