Pune: Maharashtra is one of the worst affected states in the country with regard to the surge in COVID 19 cases. Many areas in the state are seeing curfews imposed by the state administration to contain the pandemic. However, frontline workers like doctors, nurses and police officers have been working 24/7 to battle the public health crisis. In appreciation of the efforts of the frontline workers in dealing with the situation, an autorickshaw driver is giving the corona frontline workers free rides.
Services rendered to more than 500 citizens
Sandeep Kale from Pune ferries frontline workers to their work destinations and back home for free. He had started his service during last year's lockdown, that is, during the first wave. He has continued with his efforts as the second wave takes a toll on the city. To date, he has served more than 500 citizens in essential services by providing free travel in his rickshaw.

Free rickshaw travel for citizens in essential services
"Corona poses a major crisis to the entire country. I started this initiative with the aim of helping the citizens in this difficult time of crisis. Keeping in mind that I should be of some help to this society, I started giving free rickshaw service to the citizens in need. Many have to go out to hospitals, police work and labs. The citizens, who work during this crisis, sometimes do not get transport to travel as there are currently strict restrictions, " said Sandeep Kale.
The good samaritan has made his phone number available to several people by spreading it through social media platforms.
"So many needy citizens call me and then I help them with a free ride to the destination," said Sandeep Kale. "I will continue this initiative," he further added.
