Maharashtra Student Body demands refund on fee for cancelled university exams

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Maharashtra has demanded a refund of the examination fee charged by the universities and colleges across the state since the intermediate semester university exams have been cancelled. The ABVP said if their demands are not met they will hold a protest.

New Delhi: The Maharashtra Student Body has demanded a refund of the examination fee charged by the universities and colleges across the state since the intermediate semester university exams have been cancelled. The students have claimed that since the exams will not be conducted the fee must be returned immediately or refunded. Many of the students have also taken up their demand on social media platforms.

Students have been posting on social media through the #RefundExamFee under which hundreds of students have been tweeting since the last few days. The Supreme Court hearing on a decision related to the UGC guidelines for conducting the final Semester Exams 2020 is still underway and the next schedule is scheduled to be conducted on July 31, 2020.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Maharashtra has asked a refund of 100 per cent exam fee to the students. The ABVP has also mentioned that since their demands are not met with, the universities will face protests from the student body.

Members from the ABVP have demanded the state to form committees to declare a share of relaxation in the academic fee. According to the student body, the students from the engineering, medical, architecture, pharmacy, and dental programmes enrolled in the different universities across the state have paid their exam fees in advance.

The examination fee, Library Fee, and other miscellaneous charges are paid by the students at the beginning of the semester. The examination fee of the students ranges from Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 4,500 per student. However, this will vary from the government to private colleges in the state.

The student body further added that the authorities have not yet provided clarity on returning the fee.
