Mumbai: The Maharashtra government filed a review petition in Supreme Court on Tuesday to reconsider the Maratha quota verdict, reports said. It filed the petition challenging the top court's order on May 5 scrapping the 12 percent quota in education and 13 percent reservation in government jobs for the Maratha community.
BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati had earlier urged the state government to file a review petition. A committee headed by former Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale was constituted by the state government to study the Supreme Court's decision.
Maratha reservation petitioner Vinod Patil has expressed happiness over the state government's decision to file the review petition. He also advised the state government and the central government to take the issue of the Maratha reservation seriously and work together to bring justice to the community.
