Mumbai: A 60-year-old woman, Nirmaladevi Rambadan Singh, in her blithe spirit was not aware that a leopard was keeping an eye on her as she got out of her house in Aarey Colony, Visava, on Wednesday at 8pm. Walking with the help of a cane, she sat in the courtyard and the leopard came prancing at her. Trembled at the sight of the leopard, the woman, however, managed to grab courage and impulsively used her cane to retaliate at the leopard.

While the leopard clawed on her jaw and back, the woman repulsed and the leopard fled. Her kin also came out running hearing her screaming and fortunately the woman was rescued. The incident was recorded in a CCTV camera and the video has gone viral on social media. Police said that the woman was given medical assistance.

Leopard attacks have been increasing in the area and locals remain braced after the repeating incidents of leopard attacks. Locals have been critiquing the forest department as no action has been taken so far.

Nilesh Dhuri, a local, demanded that the forest department should increase night patrols in the area, install bright lights and set up cages to control leopards. Dhuri also said that leopards have been reaching the colony for the last several months.

Earlier on Sunday, locals managed to rescue a four-year-old boy after a leopard attempted to drag him away from his house premises. Even before that, a three-year-old boy was also attacked by a leopard.
