Train services resume between Pune and Lonavala

As per the declaration of Unlock 5.0 guidelines, Western Railways resumed local train services between Pune and Lonavala from October 12 at 8:05 am after a six months hiatus. The services are, however, restricted to government employees and essential service providers.

Pune: The Western Railways resumed local train services between Pune and Lonavala from October 12 after it was halted on March 23 following lockdown. However, the railway service is restricted to government employees and essential services providers. The first local train left Pune railway station at 8:05 am on Monday after over six months.

According to the Western Railways, two local trains are scheduled to commute in Pune-Lonavala route for essential services providers in the morning and evening on a daily basis. Every passenger will be provided with an e-pass by Pune city police. As per Unlock 5.0 measures guidelines, the local trains have been permitted to restart in compliance with the protocols and procedure followed in Mumbai Metropolitan Region, MMR. The commissioner of police in Pune is entrusted with the coordination of the service.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state because of the COVID-19 pandemic, with 2,21,637 active cases and 40,349 deaths reported until October 11, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
