Thane: A gas leak has come to light in a chemical company at MIDC in the Anandnagar area of Ambernath city. As many as 28 workers have been affected by the gas leak and are undergoing treatment at a government hospital. The affected workers include a higher number of women workers.
The company where the incident took place has been identified as RK Chemical Company. The incident has been registered at Shivaji Nagar police station and the police have started the process of filing a case.
Gas leakage during distillation process
The incident occurred during the distillation process of sulphuric acid. As the distillation process was going on, a pipe in the factory suffered a leak resulting in the spread of the harmful gas. The gas also seeped into a nearby company called Press Fit, causing a sudden burst of smoke and gas leaks that made it difficult for workers to breathe.

As a result, about 22 workers in the company started suffering from vomiting, nausea and suffocation. Upon receiving the information, the MIDC fire brigade, Shivaji Nagar police and MIDC officials rushed to the spot and took control of the air leak.
Meanwhile, Umesh Tayde, president of the Additional Ambernath Manufacturers Association (AMA), has blamed the company's negligence for the gas leak.
