Nasik (Maharashtra): Former Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) from Maharashtra Nishigandha Mogal has donated Rs 20 lakh, the value of her gold ornaments, to the Indian Army.
Nishigadha Mogal, a former MLC from Nasik city, is reportedly the first woman politician in the country to donate such an amount to the Indian Army.
According to Mogal, she discussed her intention of making a donation towards the Indian Army with her husband and sons, following which she decided to donate her gold ornaments.
Since the Indian Army does not accept donations in the form of gold, Mogal sent Rs 20 lakh, the value of her ornaments, to the Indian Army on October 11.
The letter from army thanking her for her generous donation subsequently went viral on social media.
Further, the Union Defence Ministry also sent a letter thanking her, while the former soldiers in Nasik felicitated her for her thoughtful act.
