Murbe (Maharashtra): In what could be the most priced catch of the Western Coast, a fisherman and his crew netted 157 Ghol fish worth Rs 1.25 crore recently after they ventured into the sea post-monsoon. Locally known as Ghol, the blackspotted croaker (Protonibea diacanthus) is one of the costliest fish in the world as the fish's internal organs are most-sought-after for their medicinal and cosmetic value especially in Far Eastern countries.
The fishing boat Harba Devi with her owner Chandrakant Tare and the eight-member crew sailed from Murbe near Palghar on August 28. About 20 to 25 nautical miles off Dahanu-Wadhwan coast, the fishermen sunk their nets as usual. When they hauled the net back, they have caught a bunch of fish both big and small and they soon realized they have netted fish worth gold.
The fishermen altogether caught 157 Ghol fish in the trip. Even before they reached the shore, the video of the catch went viral in the coastal villages. The traders from other states thronged Murbe even before the fishers reached the shore. At the auction that happened on Sunday, the internal organs of the fish fetched Rs 1.25 crore.
