Door-to-door bangle seller's daughter becomes Deputy Collector

The success story of Wasima Sheikh, who sets an example for others by becoming the Deputy Collector in Maharashtra's Nanded district. Her story will inspire many as she fought all odds to achieve her goal.

Nanded: Wasima Sheikh from Maharashtra's Nanded has set an example for others by becoming the Deputy Collector. Wasima passed the recent Maharashtra Public Service Commission examination and stood third among women in the state.

But, the journey of Wasima was full of immense struggle and hard work. Residents of Joshi Sangvi in Kandhar Taluka, her family consists of four sisters, two brothers and parents. Due to the mental illness of her father, Wasima's mother became a door to door bangle seller, while her one brother became an auto-rickshaw driver in Pune and the other one, Imran was pursuing B.Sc. degree. As the domestic situation was very bad and there was a lot of financial hardship at her home, so, Imran too started earning. And all of them made sure that there was enough money for Wasima's education.

Wasima's mother and brothers borne the entire cost of her education in such a dire situation. Thinking of their hard work and efforts, Wasima studied hard and cracked the prestigious post of Deputy Collector.

Wasima's educational journey...

Wasima studied class 1st to 7th in a Zilla Parishad School in Joshi Sangvi village in Loha taluka. From 7th to 10th standard, she got her education at Bal Brahmachari. Then, she studied at Priyadarshini Girls High School in Kandahar.

She later studied at Yashwantrao Chavan Open University. After reading the success stories of people in newspapers, Wasima decided that she will also prepare for MPSC. She went to Pune for the preparation of MPSC and appeared for the exam in 2018. Fortunately, she was selected for the post of Sales Tax Inspector. She was then placed in Nagpur division.

But, the dream of Wasima was big and she wanted to fly high. So, she kept on trying and this time she achieved great success in the 2019 results.

On June 8, she got married to Haider Sheikh of Jalkot in Latur district.

Wasima gives the credit of her success to the teachers and villagers of Joshi Sangvi's school and to her family members.
